Meet Coach Matt, one of the dedicated coaches of our U11 girls team at Gala FC, working alongside Coach John to guide and develop the next generation of players. Since joining Gala in November 2025, Coach Matt has brought passion, thoughtfulness, and a strong belief in player development to the club.

A supporter of the Seattle Sounders and a fan of Lionel Messi, Coach Matt favors the jersey number 11.

For Coach Matt, coaching success is measured by growth rather than just wins. One of the seasons he is most proud of came during his final fall recreational season. With only three returning players and a mostly new team, they began the season with a tough 7–2 loss. But through hard work and belief, the team continued to improve each time they faced their opponents again, ultimately finishing with a well-earned second place in the end-of-season tournament. Watching that group grow, learn, and gain confidence defined what success means to him as a coach.

If he could witness any match live, Coach Matt would choose the World Cup Final—whether men’s or women’s—where the world’s best players compete on the biggest stage.

For Coach Matt, soccer has always been more than just a sport. It has been an outlet—a place to channel competitiveness, express creativity, and push physical limits. As a coach, it has taken on an even deeper meaning, allowing him to share his experience, pass on his passion, and help young players fall in love with the game.

When training days bring difficult weather, Coach Matt reminds himself that excellence requires discomfort. Challenging conditions are opportunities to grow stronger, build resilience, and step outside of one’s comfort zone.

According to Coach Matt, successful soccer players combine physical skill and fitness with quick thinking, creativity under pressure, and the resilience to bounce back quickly when things don’t go their way. At Gala FC, he looks forward to helping his players develop these qualities while building confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love for the game.
